The Cathedral of São Tomé, officially named Our Lady of Grace Cathedral (Sé Catedral de Nossa Senhora da Graça), is a prominent religious and historical landmark in São Tomé, the capital city of São Tomé and Príncipe. Situated at Praça do Povo (People's Square) near the Presidential Palace, the cathedral's origins date back to the late 15th century under Captain Álvaro de Caminha. It became the seat of the diocese in 1534 and underwent several reconstructions, notably between 1576 and 1578 during King Sebastian of Portugal's reign, and later in 1814 initiated by local residents. The most recent renovation in 1956 introduced an eclectic revival style with a neo-Romanesque façade. As the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of São Tomé and Príncipe, it remains a central place of worship and a testament to the nation's rich cultural and architectural heritage.
