Our experience at Kapama Private Game Reserve was phenomenal! Let me start from the beginning. My husband and I stayed in November 2024 for two nights. We were met at Hoedspruit Airport by our game driver. He loaded our luggage into his animal safe container and drove us in his Jeep to the resort, which was right across the street. Reception was lovely. They provided fruit infused water as they took us on a tour of the resort and reminded us of their policies. We booked the Kapama River Lodge Spa Suite. The room had a very nice, spacious bathroom with double sinks, a soaking tub with bath salts and wine, and an enclosed toilet. The mini fridge was full of beer, wine, water, soda, and milk for coffee. Our balcony had views of the trees and we saw beautiful birds every morning. The room did not have a TV or radio, so it was an adjustment sleeping in complete silence. I would suggest adding some ambient noise, since you can not leave your balcony doors open. I would also suggest faster WiFi. We were barely in our room but, if we had stayed longer, we would have liked to be able to use our iPads during our down time. Breakfast had a plentiful spread of fruits and finger foods, as well as a sit down menu and delicious coffees to choose from. Dinner had very gourmet options. And because it is all-inclusive, we could change or add on to our meal as much as we liked. We had Philicia and Erasmus as our servers. They were very attentive and welcoming. Their excitement was contagious. The food itself was suited for a softer palate. I was expecting some bolder African flavors. But I can’t say I was disappointed. I just added a bit of salt and pepper to most of the dishes. We also booked a couples massage. The spa experience could have been better. My locker had a dirty robe in it, so I had to wait for a replacement. The ladies that did our massages awkwardly whispered in our ears to ask if we were comfortable throughout our service. They were very pleasant, but it felt a bit strange. The pool area was beautiful and had great views of a water hole where the animals often gather. Now for the pièce de résistance: the game drives! There are two every day, one starting at 6am and another at 4pm. We went to a reception area for coffee in the morning and the lobby area for snacks in the afternoon. We were gifted with the best team of game drivers, Thabo and Witness. They were amazing! They are native to the area and they are so knowledgeable. We were able to see THE BIG 5 before we even got to the last day. They took their time to explain the landscape, vegetation, and animal behavior. Halfway through the drive they would stop, in a safe area, for us to stretch and have some refreshments. They asked about our favorite animals and relentlessly tracked them down for us. They gave us ample time to take pictures and videos. Witness showed us “natures toothbrush” and we had a surprise encounter with a Black Mamba snake! The game drives were, by far, the best part of our entire trip to South Africa. It was unforgettable. We will absolutely request Thabo and Witness when we go back. They are worth their weight in gold! Overall, Kapama Private Game Reserve offers an awesome luxury experience. We loved that we had the same team working with us every day. That made it feel even more special. We definitely plan to go back!

This may be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, but you have to do it! Drop what you are doing and make the reservation. The resort is magnificent. Friendly staff. Delicious food. Superb drinks. Seriously, make it a point to go to Kapama. Each morning and evening you get to see animals in there natural environment. Sleeping, eating, rolling in the mud, attacking. Perfect for photography.

Absolutely magnificent! We had 4 nights in early march. The way the staff were with my two young children was brilliant. Kapama is perfect. The food, the rooms and the drives are spot on. We will definitely be back.
