Wild Africa Safaris was founded by Rodgers, a passionate safari professional born in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Raised in this small yet world-renowned resort town, Rodgers developed a deep appreciation for nature from an early age.
His journey began with studies in art, specializing in screen printing and curio carving, followed by hospitality training at the former Makasa Sun Hotel (now Kingdom Hotel), where he worked as a waiter and barman. His true calling emerged when he joined the Mosi oa Tunya Wildlife and Conservation Club, an organization dedicated to inspiring wildlife conservation among local youth. His commitment and leadership eventually saw him become the club’s chairperson.
Through regular field excursions to Hwange National Park alongside park wardens and professional guides, Rodgers gained extensive knowledge of African fauna and flora. His passion was further shaped by his father, a Park Warden who served in Zambezi National Park, Matopos, and Tshabalala Game Sanctuary.
Determined to become a professional guide, Rodgers joined Frontiers Rafting Company as an assistant foreman, working diligently to fund his guiding studies. In 1994, his career advanced significantly when he joined Afro Ventures Safari (&Beyond) in Botswana. There, he gained invaluable hands-on experience in mobile safaris lasting up to 28 days, covering routes from Chobe National Park through Moremi and the Kalahari Reserves. This period formed the foundation of his professional guiding career and continues to shape the ethos of Wild Africa Safaris today.
