The 7-Day Machame Route is a scenic and adventurous Kilimanjaro trek, taking you through rainforest, heathland, the Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, and the dramatic Barranco Valley. With gradual altitude gain and good acclimatization, the route leads to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) before descending through the rainforest to Mweka Gate.

Day 1: Machame Gate – Machame Camp
After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate for registration and park formalities. Begin your trek through the lush rainforest, following a gradual trail surrounded by beautiful vegetation. Continue to Machame Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp
After breakfast, leave the rainforest behind and climb through the heath and moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper as you approach the Shira Plateau, with impressive views of Mount Meru and Kibo Peak. Continue to Shira Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Today is an important acclimatization day. Trek toward Lava Tower at approximately 4,630m, then descend toward Barranco Camp. The climb-high, sleep-low approach helps your body adjust to the altitude. Enjoy spectacular views of the Western Breach and Barranco Wall.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
After breakfast, tackle the impressive Barranco Wall. With the help of your mountain crew, climb carefully over the rocky sections before continuing through the alpine desert. The trail then descends and rises toward Karanga Camp.

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
After breakfast, continue toward Barafu Camp, passing through a dry alpine desert landscape. Arrive at Barafu Camp in the afternoon and have an early dinner. Spend the evening resting and preparing for the summit attempt.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
Wake around midnight and begin your summit attempt. Trek slowly toward Stella Point on the crater rim before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit and taking photographs, descend through the volcanic slopes toward Mweka Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Arusha/Moshi
After breakfast, begin your final descent through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Complete the park procedures and collect your summit certificate. Meet your vehicle and transfer to Arusha or Moshi, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
