Chemka Hot Springs—A Tropical Oasis in Tanzania
Maji Moto, locally known as Kikuletwa Hot Springs or Chemka Hot Springs, is a breathtaking oasis nestled within the Tanzanian savannah. Just a 2-hour drive from Moshi, the region’s primary climbing hub, this paradise offers crystal-clear waters, lush vegetation, and captivating, Bounty-style views, making it the perfect retreat after a Kilimanjaro hike or safari adventure.
Chemka Hot Springs is a rare natural wonder in Tanzania, and possibly all of East Africa, where groundwater mingles with geothermal sources to create small, warm lakes with ever-flowing, pristine water. The clarity and purity rival the finest resorts in the Dominican Republic or the Maldives. Relax in this serene environment, swim in the rejuvenating waters, and soak in the tranquil beauty of this unique destination.

Day 1: Chemka (Kikuletwa) Hot Springs – Full Day Escape
After breakfast, your driver picks you up from your Moshi hotel for the scenic 1.5–2-hour drive through dry savannah and small villages to the hidden paradise of Chemka Hot Springs (also called Kikuletwa or Maji Moto).
Step into a surreal oasis: warm, gin-clear water bubbling up from underground, surrounded by fig trees and hanging roots—it honestly looks like the Maldives dropped into the middle of Tanzania.
Spend the day swimming, floating, swinging from the famous rope swing, and snorkeling in the perfectly transparent pools (yes, you can see fish!). The water stays a comfortable 26–28°C year-round.
Enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch on the grass with cold drinks, then more swimming or just lazing in the sun.
Late afternoon return to your hotel—relaxed, refreshed, and with incredible photos.
