Al-Azhar Park, opened in 2005 in Cairo, is a 30-hectare public space developed through a $30 million grant from Aga Khan IV, transforming the debris-covered Al-Darassa hill into a landscaped park. Designed by Sites International, the project involved large-scale excavation, restoration of the 12th-century Ayyubid Wall, and integration of traditional Islamic garden elements such as orchards, geometric pathways, and cascading water features. The park includes modern amenities like cafes, amphitheaters, and play areas, while also supporting nearby communities through urban revitalization projects in Darb al-Ahmar, including housing renovation, microfinance, and cultural preservation.

We had decided to visit the park to enjoy the sun setting over Cairo, the park offers magnificent views of the Citadel which is most beautiful when lit up, on a clear day the pyramids can be seen in the distances behind the city. The calls to prayer is also a magical experience as it echoes through the city. This is a clean, well kept space for all to enjoy.

One of the best gardens in Cairo with a huge space and a perfect place for chill out and picnic. There is also a large kids area with alot of games. The view is amazing specially at sun set time. They will not allowed to enter with football although you can buy one from the shops inside the park also the ticket for the Camera is very expensive. For mobile it's OK no fees.
