Nkawkaw, located in Ghana's Eastern Region, serves as the capital of the Kwahu West Municipal District. Positioned along the main road and former railway line connecting Accra and Kumasi, the town lies roughly midway between these two major cities. Nkawkaw is also a key point of access to the Kwahu Mountains, often described as a "gateway" due to its position in a valley at the base of the range. Despite its geographical proximity, it is historically distinguished from the traditional Kwahu towns located atop the mountains. Nkawkaw is well-connected by road to other towns like Koforidua and Konongo, further enhancing its importance as a transport and trade hub in the region.
