Flat Island, or Île Plate, lies 11 kilometers north of Mauritius and covers 2.53 square kilometers. Known for its historical significance and diverse ecology, the island was once a quarantine station for immigrants and still has remnants of old structures, including a cemetery. It is home to native seabirds, bats, and endemic reptiles, while its surrounding waters attract snorkelers and divers. Pigeon Rock, just offshore, is famous for its "Shark Pit" dive site, where sharks gather due to oxygen-rich waters. The island remains uninhabited except for a small military presence and is accessible via boat tours from the mainland.

Beautiful colors of the water. White sand and reefs nearby. It can get a bit too crowded once the boats start to arrive around midday.

Place is amazing! Water has azure color, and is crystal clear. White sand all over the island. It's truly beautiful.

Excellent excursion to visit when you are in Mauritius. Just beware of the currents , at times they are quite strong and can pull you through. But the beach at Flat island is pristine with crystal blue waters.

We did the Flat-Island tour twice. If we'd had more time we would have done it a few times more. It was the best snorkeling expericence we ever had. It was organized by the hotel and took almost the whole day together with snorkeling at Gunner's Qoin and swimming with turtles. On the way to Flat Island we were accompanied by Dolphin's for a while.
