The Fish River Canyon in Namibia, the world's second-largest canyon, is part of the Ais-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park. Located 10 kilometers from Hell's Bend viewpoint at Hobas Restcamp, visitors must report here. The canyon hike is closed during the summer due to heat, but the Fish River Hiking Trail is accessible from April to September, spanning 85 kilometers and typically completed in 4 to 5 days by fit hikers. Spanning 800 kilometers, the Fish River originates in the Naukluft Mountains and feeds into the Hardap Dam, Namibia's largest water reservoir. The canyon, which began forming over a billion years ago, stretches 161 kilometers, reaches 27 kilometers in width, and plunges to depths of 550 meters, showcasing a dramatic geological history marked by ancient tectonic activity and glaciation.

Fish River Canon is a must-see outlook/ view. Very beautiful and peaceful. The entrance fee was a bit steep considering the time you spend at the lookout point. R100 per person and R50 per vehicle if you are South African, Europeans are more expensive.

Visited the Fish River Canyon and stayed at the Hobas campsite during our "Gents" trip in Oct 2021. What an amazing experience. Definitely worth the visit.

River was low, not flowing, but regardless, the Canyon is an amazing experience. It is a relatively easy hike if you are prepared for the harsh elements. The best sleep under the stars you will find.
