Nasarawa, a town in Nasarawa State, North Central Nigeria, is a vital market hub for crops such as melon, yams, sorghum, millet, soybeans, shea nuts, and cotton from the surrounding region. Located near a fork in the Okwa River, a tributary of the Benue River, the town sits at a key road intersection connecting Keffi, Loko, Toto, and Umaisha. Founded in 1835 by Umaru, a dissident from Keffi, it became the seat of the Nassarawa emirate and later a vassal state to Zaria. Over time, the emirate expanded through conquests, and in 1900, its ruler Muhammadu Dan Waji pledged allegiance to Britain. Today, Nasarawa is known for its educational institutions, public and private healthcare facilities, and a rich historical legacy.
