Obudu Mountain Resort, formerly Obudu Cattle Ranch, is located on the Obudu Plateau in Cross River State, near Nigeria's border with Cameroon. Established in 1951 by Scottish rancher M. McCaughley and colleagues, the resort sits at an altitude of 1,600 metres, offering a semi-temperate mountain climate distinct from much of the country. It is approximately 65 km from Obudu town and 332 km from Calabar. Though the cable car system and nearby Bebi airstrip have faced operational setbacks, efforts have been made to revive them in recent years. The resort includes accommodation, hiking trails, and scenic views, and has attracted domestic and international visitors following infrastructure improvements by the state government.

The views were terrific. However I was charged money to visit a site that was closed for renovation. And also charged to be taken to go see places that aren't exactly tourist sites

SECURITY TRIED TO BREAK INTO OUR VILLA My family woke up at 1 am to loud banging on our elevated (15 ft off the ground) veranda and our front door. When we called out twice, loudly, who is there, no one answered. We reached out to the concierge, who told us not to worry. We had to call 2 more times for them to do something about it. In that time, we also heard a screwdriver attempting to remove the door knob. When we spoke to the receptionist and management in the morning, they laughed at our fear, devalued our concerns, and lied that it was only a drunk guest until later they admitted it was a staff member. I had to message the general manager, Menchie Megrinio, dozens of times to get a response from her, and when she did respond, she just pretended nothing was wrong. Corrupt and dangerously run resort, which is a shame because the mountain is beautiful. Do not go if you care for the safety of your family. Visit Jos instead. I’ll add that we had to beg for hot water, even when the generators were on. Their limited generator hours were even more limited because they went on late and turned off early, and there is no affordable food, water, or snacks for purchase on the mountain.

This place is beautiful (I mean the nature part). The serene is beautiful, the mountains, the air, the peace and quietness. I really loved it. However from a management point the cabins, buildings and amenities need upgrades and renovations. The bedsheets were stained, the amenities were not properly cleaned. The electricity situation was quiet poor with timeframes of 6:30pm - 12am. The cable carts which should be a major attraction is parked and not functional due to lack of maintenance. This place has so much potential if it is handed to the right management.

I recently spent 5 unforgettable days at Obudu Mountain Resort, and I'm still reeling from the breathtaking natural view and experiences this Nigerian gem offered! Obudu MR is the best place to be if you are an avid hiker. Obudu's extensive network of trails caters to all skill levels, from leisurely strolls to challenging summits. The 11km Becheve Nature Trail was a highlight, offering stunning vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The scenic routes winding through lush forests, waterfalls, and grasslands. Due to some recent renovations, OMR has comfortable accommodations with breathtaking views and an okay restaurant for your meals. For the hiking, they have different packages and guided tours available, ranging from 1 hour to 5 hours hiking tours. Tips: Don't expect 24-hour luxury. The power supply is for a few hours, but you can arrange for a longer supply. The weather is incredibly cold, so pack lots of warm clothes, go with good comfortable sports shoes and make no plans for laundry, because your clothes won't dry if you wash them. Everything and everywhere is far 😅, like I said, it's for hikers, though I saw a few people party overnight in their cabins. The electricity wiring is tricky, so ask for the help of the cabin engineers. Obudu Mountain Resort is a must-visit destination for hiking enthusiasts. Its unique blend of natural beauty, amenities, and activities makes it an unforgettable experience.
