Kibuye, the headquarters of Rwanda's Western Province, is located on the eastern shores of Lake Kivu, between Gisenyi and Cyangugu. The city is known for its lakeside setting and proximity to two national parks. It is home to a genocide memorial commemorating the loss of most of its Tutsi population during the 1994 genocide. Nearby, Ndaba Falls is a notable natural site. Kibuye also hosts methane gas extraction projects, including Kibuye Power Plant 1 and KivuWatt Power Station, which contribute to Rwanda's energy supply.
