Lagoa Amélia, located within São Tomé's Obô Natural Park, is an extinct volcanic crater now transformed into a shallow, marshy depression. Situated at approximately 1,412 meters above sea level, it is surrounded by lush rainforest and is accessible via a 3.2 km hiking trail from the park's Bom Sucesso office. The trail traverses cultivated plots before entering dense rainforest, offering opportunities to observe endemic bird species. The hike is considered moderate, with some steep and muddy sections, and typically takes about five hours round trip. Visitors are advised to wear comfortable hiking footwear and be prepared for variable weather conditions.

Beautiful hike and take around 2.5h with price around 20€ per person, enter is via Botanic Garden with guide only with national parque licence ( Any other guide from city of hotel will not be allowed). Pretty slippery so better to have proper shoes

One of the famous hike at the heart of National Obô Park. Can leave at 9 am from botanical garden, or even earlier if you want to watch endemic birds. Need a local guide, and a park fee may be requested. Beware of rain (likely to start at around noon). We recommend that you make a walking stick, as the descent can be slippery. Also e recommend to bring extra and dry clothes that you leave in the car, so you can easily change clothes after the hike !

We didn't make it to Lagoa, the guide robbed us of motivation with imprecise time information. After about 90 minutes the mood was in the basement. Especially with children, motivation is more important on such routes than actual energy reserves. And then it goes back another 90 minutes. Please remember to wear sturdy shoes, long trousers, mosquito repellent and plenty of water.

It's worth wander through the jungle to see this mysterious place. Be careful when trying to reach the stick, the ground may grab your leg and not let go :)
