The Amabere Caves, located near Nyakasura Falls and around five miles from Fort Portal, are renowned for their historical and cultural significance. The name Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru, meaning "Breasts of Nyinamwiru", originates from a local legend involving Nyinamwiru, the daughter of a usurper king. After her breasts were severed by her father, she hid in the caves, where she allegedly used stalactites dripping calcium-rich liquid to nourish her child. While the caves themselves are a large overhang, visitors can also enjoy the nearby waterfall, crater lakes, and local folklore, making it a unique stop for travelers exploring the region.

It's such a serene and spacious place. Fun with the water 💦 was great. Good for solo outings as in reflection/meditation. But great for group meet-ups. For one day or camping nights 🔥🔥. Better visited during dry season. Remember to go for the mountain walks for the amazing and healing views of the ancient crater lakes. January 2024.
