Kuimba Shiri, located on the shores of Lake Chivero, is home to over 400 species of wild birds, making it one of Zimbabwe's premier bird parks. Founded in 1994 by conservationist and falconer Gary Stafford, the park quickly grew to house Africa's largest collection of indigenous birds by 2002. Some of its inhabitants have even featured in BBC documentaries like The Life of Birds and Eagles with David Attenborough. The park serves as a sanctuary for injured and orphaned birds, offering rehabilitation and education through visits from students of all ages. Kuimba Shiri is recognized for its peaceful location and its status as a Sri Chinmoy International Peace Park, sharing this honor with sites like the Great Barrier Reef and Mount Fuji. In addition to bird watching, visitors can enjoy boat trips to the nearby national park, where they can spot wildlife, including the white rhino.

Good place, with a big open space for the kids to freely play. They have a wide range of birds, some of which we had never had an experience to be close to them. I remember growing up in our rural home in the Zambezi Valley, we used to see Chapungu [bateleur eagle] high up in the sky and never seen one flying low or resting in a tree. I had my first experience to see this bird at a close range. The bird show is an icing of the whole experience. Their food is fresh and delicious. I would go to the place over and over again without being bored.

A family lunch at Kuimba Shiri, outdoors on the open lawn, shaded by big trees. Our waiter was attentive and helpful Varying dishes were ordered, I had a Hamburger and chips, others had Steak and Chips, half chicken and chips and Pizzas. Clean plates all round. A nice filter coffee for me, Cappuccinos and milkshakes for the others. We wondered through the bird park where we had an opportunity to see a close up birds normally only visible at a distance through binoculars - African Fish Eagle, several Owls and a number of birds of prey. The birds were in good condition and the aviary well maintained. Sadly we had to leave before the flying demonstration. An easy drive from Harare on the Bulawayo Road

Breathtaking views, i mean wow! Their friendly staff makes you feel right at home. I had a chicken burger with chips, the homemade patty on that burger was so yummy and filling, i hardly finished the meal🤣. I especially loved the Birds exhibition at the end. #littleparadiseinzimbabwe

This is a great place for nature and bird lovers. Great variety of birds to see and you should see the birds being trained. The guys there have great knowledge of the birds in their care. They will tell you that they are 'Falconers' and indeed they are. Sanctuary for birds and the amazing thing is if the birds want to fly away they are allowed. So in a way all the birds you see there stay because they feel at home.

Nothing quite like being surrounded by birds, greenery and Lake Chivero. Each time I visit Kuimba Shiri it feels like a new experience. The only thing that I wish they'd improve on is the restaurant, last time it took them ages to get our orders and even longer to serve our milkshakes. Their milkshakes were so poorly done we had to ask for a refund. Aside from that one incident we really love it here, ideal for family outings and when you just want to escape from the city. The bird show at the end of the day is always so memorable.
