The 7-Day Lemosho Route is a scenic and rewarding trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania’s highest peak. Starting from the lush western slopes, the route offers stunning landscapes, excellent acclimatization, and a gradual approach to the summit. Over seven days, you’ll trek through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and finally the Arctic zone before reaching Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. This route is ideal for climbers seeking a beautiful, less crowded trail with a good balance of challenge and acclimatization.

Day 1: Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration and park formalities. Begin your trek through the beautiful montane rainforest, where you may encounter monkeys and a variety of birdlife. Continue along a scenic forest trail to Mti Mkubwa Camp, where you will spend your first night.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 2 Camp
After breakfast, leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone. The trail gradually climbs through open landscapes with giant heather plants and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Continue across the Shira Plateau toward Shira 2 Camp.

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp – Barranco Camp
Today is an important acclimatization day. Trek toward Lava Tower at approximately 4,630 m before descending to Barranco Camp. The “climb high, sleep low” approach helps your body adjust to the increasing altitude. Enjoy impressive views of the Western Breach and Barranco Wall.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
After breakfast, tackle the famous Barranco Wall. Although steep in places, the climb is manageable and offers an exciting trekking experience. Once over the wall, continue across ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp, with stunning views of Kibo Peak.

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
After an early breakfast, you will tackle the famous Barranco Wall. Although it looks intimidating, the trail is manageable with the assistance of experienced guides.
After reaching the top of the wall, you will continue through valleys and ridges toward Karanga Camp. After a short rest, the trek continues toward Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt.
At Barafu, your guides will provide a summit briefing and help you prepare your equipment. You will have an early dinner and rest as much as possible because the summit climb begins around midnight.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Millennium Camp
You will wake around midnight and begin your summit attempt. The climb starts in darkness and proceeds slowly toward Stella Point (5,739 m) on the crater rim.
From Stella Point, you will continue around the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m.
Once you reach the summit, you will have time to celebrate, take photographs and enjoy the incredible views, weather and energy permitting.
You will then descend back toward Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Millennium Camp.
This is the longest and most demanding day of the trek, so maintaining a slow pace, staying hydrated and following your guide's instructions are essential.

Day 7: Millennium Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi
After breakfast, you will begin your final descent through the lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate.
At the gate, you will complete the park exit procedures and receive your summit certificates. You will then meet your vehicle and transfer back to Arusha, where you can relax after your successful Kilimanjaro adventure.
