The 7-Day Machame Route is a scenic and rewarding way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, offering an extra day for acclimatization compared with the 6-day itinerary. The route takes you through lush rainforest, moorland, alpine desert and spectacular high-altitude landscapes.
The journey includes the famous Barranco Wall, the scenic Karanga Valley, and a gradual approach to Barafu Camp. The additional acclimatization day helps improve your chances of adapting to the altitude before the summit attempt.
The adventure culminates with a midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, you descend through the southern slopes to Mweka Gate.

Day 1: Machame Gate – Machame Camp
After breakfast, you will drive to Machame Gate for registration and permit formalities. Once ready, your trek begins through the beautiful montane rainforest.
The trail gradually climbs through dense vegetation, with opportunities to see monkeys and various bird species. You will continue at a steady pace toward Machame Camp, where you will have dinner and rest.

Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp
After breakfast, you leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper as you ascend toward the spectacular Shira Plateau.
Enjoy panoramic views of Mount Meru and, weather permitting, beautiful views of Kibo Peak. The relatively short hiking day gives you time to rest and begin adapting to the increasing altitude.

Day 3: Shira Camp – Shira 2 Camp
Today is a shorter acclimatization day across the spectacular Shira Plateau. You will hike through open moorland landscapes with excellent views of Kibo and the surrounding mountain scenery.
The gentle pace allows your body to adjust to the altitude while giving you plenty of time to rest and enjoy the environment.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Today is an important acclimatization day. You will trek toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,630 m before descending to Barranco Camp.
The climb-high, sleep-low approach helps your body adapt to the increasing altitude. Along the way, you will experience dramatic volcanic landscapes and spectacular views of Kibo Peak.
After descending into the Barranco Valley, you will arrive at camp beneath the impressive Barranco Wall.

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
After breakfast, you begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall. With the assistance of your experienced guides, you will navigate the rocky sections before continuing across ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp.
After a short rest, you continue toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp for your summit attempt.
Upon arrival at Barafu, your guides will provide a summit briefing and help you prepare your equipment. You will have an early dinner and rest as much as possible before the midnight summit attempt.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
You will wake around midnight and begin your summit attempt. The trail leads slowly upward through the darkness toward Stella Point at approximately 5,739 m.
From Stella Point, you continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m.
After reaching the summit, you will have time to celebrate, take photographs and enjoy the incredible views, weather and conditions permitting.
You will then descend toward Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp, where you will spend the night.

Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi
After breakfast, you begin your final descent through the lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate.
At the gate, you will complete the park exit procedures and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate. You will then meet your transfer vehicle and drive back to Arusha or Moshi, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
