The 8-Day Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and highly recommended routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. The longer itinerary provides an excellent opportunity for gradual acclimatization, making it ideal for trekkers who want a more comfortable ascent and a strong chance of reaching the summit.
The journey begins through the beautiful rainforest before crossing the spectacular Shira Plateau and continuing through moorland and alpine desert landscapes. Along the way, you will experience highlights such as Lava Tower, Barranco Wall and Karanga Valley before reaching Barafu Camp.
The adventure culminates with a challenging midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, you will descend through the southern slopes and complete your trek at Mweka Gate.

Day 1: Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, you will drive to Londorossi Gate for registration and permit formalities. From the gate, you continue to the trailhead and begin your trek through the lush montane rainforest.
The trail is relatively gentle, allowing you to enjoy the forest scenery and wildlife before reaching Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp
After breakfast, you leave the rainforest and gradually enter the moorland zone. The vegetation becomes shorter and the landscape opens up as you climb toward the spectacular Shira Plateau.
You will continue at a steady pace, enjoying views of the surrounding mountains before arriving at Shira 1 Camp.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp
Today is a relatively gentle acclimatization day. You will trek across the beautiful Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro's most scenic areas.
The trail offers impressive views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding volcanic landscape. You will arrive at Shira 2 Camp with plenty of time to rest and acclimatize.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Today you climb toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,630 m before descending to Barranco Camp.
This is an important acclimatization day following the principle of “climb high, sleep low.” The landscape changes dramatically as you enter the alpine desert, with spectacular views of Kibo and the surrounding volcanic terrain.
After descending into the Barranco Valley, you arrive at Barranco Camp beneath the impressive Barranco Wall.

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
After breakfast, you begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall. Although steep in places, the trail is manageable with the assistance of your experienced mountain guides.
After reaching the top, you continue across ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp. This shorter hiking day provides valuable time for rest and acclimatization.

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Today you make your way toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit.
The trail continues through a stark alpine desert landscape with views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Once at Barafu, your guides will conduct a summit briefing and help you prepare your equipment for the following day's summit attempt.
You will have an early dinner and rest as much as possible because the summit climb begins around midnight.

Day 7: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
You will wake around midnight and begin your ascent toward Stella Point at approximately 5,739 m. The climb is slow and steady, with your guides setting a comfortable pace.
From Stella Point, you continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m.
After reaching the summit, celebrate your achievement and take photographs, weather and conditions permitting.
You will then descend toward Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp, where you will spend the night.

Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi
After breakfast, you begin your final descent through the lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate.
At the gate, you will complete the park exit procedures and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate. You will then meet your transfer vehicle and drive back to Arusha or Moshi, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
