8-Day Kilimanjaro adventure – Machame route

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and meet our team for a private transfer to Moshi. Check in at Chanya Lodge, relax, and receive a full climb briefing and final gear check. Overnight at Chanya Lodge.

After breakfast, we transfer to Machame Gate for registration and a final briefing. The trek begins through lush rainforest with a steady climb on a well-established trail. Along the way, enjoy the rich vegetation and birdlife as we gain altitude gradually. In the afternoon, we reach Machame Camp (3,000 m), where your crew sets up camp and you settle in for dinner and your first night on the mountain.

After breakfast, we leave the rainforest behind and continue the climb into the heath and moorland zone. The trail becomes more open with wider views across the mountain slopes and dramatic landscapes. As altitude increases, the vegetation changes and the air becomes cooler and drier. We arrive at Shira Camp (3,840 m) in the afternoon, settle into camp, and enjoy a warm dinner while taking in the expansive views of Kilimanjaro's upper slopes.

Today is an important acclimatization day. After breakfast, we trek upward across the alpine landscape toward Lava Tower (4,630 m), gaining altitude gradually and taking steady breaks. This “climb high, sleep low” approach helps your body adapt to the thinner air. After lunch near Lava Tower, we descend into the scenic Barranco Valley and arrive at Barranco Camp (3,960 m). The camp sits beneath the impressive Barranco Wall and offers one of the most beautiful sunset views on the mountain.

After breakfast, we begin with the climb up the famous Barranco Wall. It is a fun and scenic scramble with incredible views, and your guide will support you step by step. We continue across ridges and valleys toward Karanga, then proceed into the alpine desert zone as we gain altitude. Arrive at Barafu Camp (4,673 m) in the afternoon to rest, hydrate, and enjoy an early dinner. Tonight you go to bed early in preparation for the midnight summit attempt.

We wake around midnight for the summit attempt. After a light snack, we begin the steady climb under the stars toward Stella Point, then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After photos and a sunrise moment at the summit, we descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and brunch, then continue down through changing landscapes to Mweka Camp (3,100 m) for dinner and overnight in tents.

After breakfast, we continue the descent through the rainforest on the Mweka Route. The trail is gentle but can be slippery, so we take our time and enjoy the final forest scenery. At Mweka Gate (1,640 m), we complete park formalities and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificates. Afterward, our driver meets you for a private transfer back to Moshi. Check in at Chanya Lodge, enjoy a hot shower, relax, and celebrate your achievement. Overnight at Chanya Lodge.

After breakfast, our driver will pick you up from Chanya Lodge for a private transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure. We recommend arriving at the airport at least 2–3 hours before your flight. End of services.
