Tres Centurias Complex: Aguascalientes Rail Heritage
Entry to the 19th-century railway yards of the Tres Centurias Complex is free, and the on-site Railroad Museum charges just 20 pesos for adults. The complex occupies the old locomotive repair shops and station in the Barrio de la Estación, about a 20-minute walk east of Aguascalientes' main square. It is the kind of place where you can spend two hours or half a day, depending on whether you arrive for the Sunday market or a concert in the old engine shed.

What to See and Do Inside the Complex
The grounds are divided into open plazas, restored industrial buildings, and a cluster of museums. The layout is easy to navigate on foot, though the scale of the former rail yards means you will cover some distance between highlights.
Railroad Museum and Historic Locomotives
The Museo Ferrocarrilero occupies the old passenger station, a late-19th-century building with high ceilings and original tile work. Its collection includes locomotives, vintage rail cars, and photographs tracing Aguascalientes' role as a major rail junction. A standout is the steam locomotive La Hidrocálida, built in 1937. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00; general admission is 20 pesos, with a 10-peso rate for students, teachers, and seniors. Sundays are free for everyone. I found the outdoor locomotive display more engaging than the indoor galleries, especially the chance to climb into some of the cars — something that isn't always allowed at railway museums.
Museo Espacio and the Macro Espacio for Culture and Arts
The Museo Espacio, part of the larger MECA (Macro Espacio para la Cultura y las Artes), is housed in a converted railway workshop. The industrial scale of the building makes it suitable for large installations and contemporary art exhibitions. Hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 11:00 to 18:00, with a 20-peso general admission and 10 pesos for students and seniors; Sundays are free. Check the schedule before you go — the museum sometimes closes between exhibitions, and the exhibition calendar is not always updated on third-party sites.
Parks, Fountains, and Open Spaces
The central plaza connects the museums with gardens, a small train ride for children, and the Fuente de las Aguas Danzarinas — a dancing fountain that operates at regular intervals. The plaza is free to enter and stays open from 10:00 to 21:00, though individual buildings keep shorter hours. On weekends, the atmosphere shifts toward families and couples taking photos; on weekday mornings, you may have the place largely to yourself.
Practical Information for Visitors
Location, Hours, and Admission
The complex sits at Av. Manuel Gómez Morín s/n in the Barrio de la Estación, with a secondary address at 28 de Agosto s/n. The main plaza is open daily from 10:00 to 21:00, but museums generally close on Mondays and some open only Wednesday through Sunday. The Railroad Museum and Museo Espacio both follow the Wednesday–Sunday pattern. The Universidad de las Artes, also within the complex, has its own schedule and is free to enter. Fees are subject to change — check the official site or ask at the ticket window for current rates.
How to Get There and Getting Around
The walk from the city center takes about 20 minutes, or a short taxi ride. Several city bus routes — including RUTA 02, RUTA 18, RUTA 28, and RUTA 43 — stop within a few blocks of the complex. If you drive, there is a parking lot on 28 de Agosto; parking is generally free for visitors, though it can fill up during major events. Once inside, the grounds are walkable, but the distance from the entrance to the Railroad Museum is about 10 minutes on foot, so wear comfortable shoes.
Best Time to Visit and How Long to Stay
The climate here is mild year-round, with average temperatures between 18°C and 20°C. October through May brings the most pleasant weather and the least rain. The Feria Nacional de San Marcos (April–May) draws huge crowds to the city, and the complex hosts special events during that period. Allow at least two hours to see the main museums and walk the grounds; history enthusiasts and photographers may want three. If you visit on a Sunday, when museum entry is free, expect more local families and a livelier atmosphere.

Nice place for a walk and have a glimpse into Aguascalientes's most emblematic history. not crowded most of the time, you will find many different events occurring throughout the year. I had the opportunity to be there during a fair and a chess tournament. The art gallery is also highly recomended.

Aguascalientes railway museum. Huge area, with historic locomotives, freight & passenger cars. Restaurants, cafes, parks playgrounds. Excellent for families and kids. Highly recommend.

Ome of the best places to just have a chill moment and be in touch with the culture of AGS. Every Sunday you can find stands of different people selling fruits, food, and a variety of products. Is also a greater place to spend time with your familia and kids. I love that is one of the few places where you can find that many trees.

Very nice place to view old classic trains. If you take the kiddy train tour, you can learn about the location and the train they have. They also have a museum but we left a little early and didn't go inside. It's a nice relaxing place.

Probably the most photographeable spot in town. It has gorgeous buildings from an old train station complex built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This complex includes museum, park areas, fountains, fast food, real ancient trains, etc. But the place lacks of activities all around the place that engage the visitors or heritage inside its historical buildings. Anyways... This is an obligated stop in town.
