After breakfast, drive for about 3–4 hours to the Lemosho Gate, located on the western side of Kilimanjaro. Complete park registration while the crew prepares the gear.
Begin trekking through the lush montane rainforest, one of the most beautiful ecological zones on the mountain. The trail is filled with ancient trees, moss carpets, colorful birds, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. The air is humid, and the terrain is gentle and soft underfoot, making it a comfortable start to the adventure.
Arrive at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp, enjoy your first hot dinner on the mountain, and rest.

Climb onto the Shira Ridge, where the first spectacular views of Kibo Peak appear. Descend gently onto the wide-open Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s oldest lava flows.
This is a beautiful, peaceful section of the mountain with endless views.

A short but important acclimatization day. Walk slowly across the high-altitude Shira Plateau, enjoying views of Kibo in front and Mount Meru behind.
Your guide may take you on additional acclimatization hikes in the afternoon ("hike high, sleep low") to increase oxygen adaptation.
Expect cool temperatures, strong sun, and stunning sunsets.
Altitude: 3,500m → 3,840m
Hiking Distance: 7 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

This is one of the most important acclimatization days on the Lemosho Route.
Start by ascending steadily toward the Lava Tower, a massive volcanic rock formation standing at 4,630 meters. The air becomes thinner and colder as you approach.
You will stop for a hot lunch at Lava Tower before descending into the impressive Barranco Valley, filled with senecio and lobelia plants.
This “climb high, sleep low” strategy prepares your body for the summit attempt.

At the top, enjoy some of the best views of Kibo’s glaciers.
Continue across ridges and valleys to reach Karanga Camp, which sits between two deep valleys and is perfect for acclimatization.
