8 Days Kilimanjaro Climbing – Lemosho Route

After breakfast, depart Moshi for Londorossi Gate for registration and climbing formalities. Continue to the Lemosho trailhead and begin trekking through Kilimanjaro’s beautiful rainforest. Wildlife such as colobus monkeys may be spotted along the way before reaching Mti Mkubwa Camp. Elevation: Approx. 2,100m → 2,650m Hiking: 3–4 hours Accommodation: Mti Mkubwa Camp

Leave the rainforest behind and climb gradually into the heath and moorland zone. Enjoy increasingly impressive views across the Shira Plateau and toward Kibo before arriving at Shira 1 Camp. Elevation: 2,650m → 3,610m Hiking: 5–6 hours Accommodation: Shira 1 Camp

Today offers a relatively gentle trek across the spectacular Shira Plateau. The slower pace supports acclimatization while providing beautiful views of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscapes. Elevation: 3,610m → 3,850m Hiking: 3–5 hours Accommodation: Shira 2 Camp

Trek toward Lava Tower at approximately 4,600m for an important acclimatization opportunity. After reaching the high point, descend into the scenic Barranco Valley to spend the night at a lower elevation. Elevation: 3,850m → 4,600m → 3,950m Hiking: 6–8 hours Accommodation: Barranco Camp

Begin with the exciting climb up the famous Barranco Wall. Continue across ridges and valleys with impressive views of Kilimanjaro’s southern glaciers before descending into Karanga Valley and reaching camp. Elevation: 3,950m → 4,035m Hiking: 4–5 hours Accommodation: Karanga Camp

Continue through the alpine desert toward Barafu Camp, the base for the summit attempt. Arrive early enough to eat, organize your summit equipment and rest before beginning the final ascent around midnight. Elevation: 4,035m → 4,673m Hiking: 3–4 hours Accommodation: Barafu Camp

Around midnight, begin the demanding ascent toward Stella Point. Continue along the crater rim as sunrise illuminates Kilimanjaro before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Barafu for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp. Elevation: 4,673m → 5,895m → 3,100m Hiking: Approx. 12–16 hours Accommodation: Mweka Camp

Enjoy your final breakfast on Kilimanjaro before descending through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Successful climbers receive their summit certificates before transferring back to Moshi. Elevation: 3,100m → 1,640m Hiking: 3–4 hours
