After breakfast, depart Tarangire and ascend through the lush agricultural landscapes of Karatu toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Arrive at the rim of the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera in time for lunch. The afternoon is yours to marvel at the panoramic views 600 meters below, enjoy high-altitude guided nature walks along the rim, or visit an authentic Maasai boma for a culturally respectful glimpse into local pastoralist life.

Descend early through the morning mist onto the crater floor for a game drive across its 260-square-kilometer floor. This natural amphitheater is home to nearly 30,000 large mammals. Seek out black rhinos grazing across the open savannah, prides of black-maned lions lounging near Lake Magadi, and pods of hippos in the Ngoitokitok Springs. Savor a scenic picnic lunch on the crater floor before ascending back to the rim in the late afternoon.

Bid farewell to the highlands and journey down into the boundless plains of the Serengeti, whose name derives from the Maasai word Siringit ("the place where the land moves on forever"). Enter the park via the Naabi Hill gate and embark on an en-route game drive through the Seronera River Valley.
